<![CDATA[Iron composite nanoparticles were prepared (90% yield) using macromolecule chitosan and characterized by spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM & EDX). These were utilized to remove diclofenac sodium in water. The adjusted parameters were 400 μg/ L, 50.0 min., 5.0, 2.0 g/ L and 25.0 °C as concentration, contact time, pH, adsorbent amount and temperature for the elimination of diclofenac sodium in water with maximum 85% elimination. The sorption was spontaneous with exothermic. Data followed Langmuir, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. Thermodynamic parameter ΔG° values were -12.19, -13.74 and -15.67 kJ/mol at 20, 25 and 30 °C temperatures. The values of ΔH° and ΔS° were 8.58 and 20.84 kJ/mol. Pseudo-first-order and liquid film diffusion mechanisms were proposed for the adsorption. This adsorption method is fast, effective eco-friendly and low-cost as it may be used in natural circumstances of water resources. The sorption method may be applied for the elimination of diclofenac sodium in any water body at a huge and financial scale.Low molecular weight heparosan is an un-sulfated polysaccharide primarily used as a precursor for heparin synthesis that has recently been used in drug delivery applications. Heparosan synthesis from recombinant bacterial systems provides a safer alternative to naturally producing pathogenic bacterial systems. In this study, we engineered a functional heparosan synthesis pathway in Bacillus megaterium by the expression of E. coli K5 kfiC and kfiA glycosyltransferase genes. Upregulation of individual UDP-sugar precursor pathway genes enhanced the heparosan production, indicating that UDP-precursor sugar concentrations were limiting the biosynthesis. The engineered B. megaterium yielded a maximum heparosan concentration of 394 mg/L in batch bioreactor. The heparosan titer was further increased to 1.32 g/L in fed-batch fermentation. Nuclear magnetic resonance analysis revealed that the chemical structure of B. megaterium derived heparosan was identical to E. coli K5 heparosan. The heparosan molecular weight varied from 31 to 60 kDa, indicating its potential as a precursor for chemoenzymatic heparin biosynthesis. This study provides an efficient process to produce heparosan from non-pathogenic B. megaterium.New details of chemical structure of Araucaria lignin are the focus of this paper, since Araucaria is a relict plant which fossils are dated by the Permian period. Quantitative chemical analysis, FTIR, EPR and 2D NMR spectroscopies, Py-GC/MS and nitrobenzene oxidation have been used to characterize the Araucaria lignin. This work highlighted the structural features of the lignin of Araucaria, which distinguish it from modern coniferous (gymnosperm) lignins. This lignin exhibits pronounced paramagnetic properties with the concentration of paramagnetic centers of 3.0 × 1017 spin/g, the value of g-factor of 2.0036 corresponds to the phenoxyl radical. The Araucaria lignin is apparently unique since it does not belong to the known G, GS or GSH types. For the first time it was quantitatively proven that he lignin of Araucaria was assigned to compositionally heterogeneous GH lignins, which is not typical for modern lignins.Carrageenan-based functional wound dressing materials were prepared through a one-pot green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using lignin as a reducing and capping agent in the carrageenan matrix cross-linked with divalent cations such as CaCl2, CuCl2, and MgCl2. The wound healing efficacy of the hydrogel film was evaluated using Sprague-Dawley rats. Crosslinking with divalent cations improved the physical properties of carrageenan-based hydrogels containing AgNPs such as strength, flexibility, swelling ratio, and release rate of Ag ions depending on the type of crosslinking agent used. The carrageenan-based hydrogels were biocompatible against the mouse fibroblast cell line (L929 cell line). Carra/Lig/AgNPs/MgCl2 hydrogel significantly healed the wounds in Sprague-Dawley rats within two weeks, reducing the wound area to less then 3%, which was further confirmed by histological analysis with the epidermis and mature glands. Carrageenan-based multifunctional hydrogels have a high potential for wound dressing applications. The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate chitosan dispersed lipid vesicles (chitosomes) as potential delivery carriers for repurposing metformin (Met) against malignant pleural mesothelioma. Chitosomes were prepared by directly hydrating the thin lipid film using chitosan solution as hydration medium, instead of using it as a coating agent. Developed chitosomes demonstrated spherical morphology, positive surface charge (~30 mV) and ~60% encapsulation efficiency. The calorimetric studies and X-ray diffraction pattern of Met-loaded chitosomes confirmed the successful encapsulation of Met inside the chitosome vesicles. Optimized chitosome formulation showed ~70% drug release in 72 h, displaying prolonged and controlled release of drug. Results demonstrated that Met encapsulated chitosomes possessed enhanced cellular internalization and improved cytotoxic potential. Our findings also supported inhibitory activity of chitosomes against metastatic property of pleural mesothelioma cells. The in-vitro tumor simulation studies further established anti-tumor activity of Met encapsulated chitosomes as supported by reduction in tumor volume and presence of minimal viable cells in tumor mass. The obtained results establish the effectiveness of chitosomes as delivery carrier for Met as treatment alternative for malignant pleural mesothelioma.Mesquite gum (Prosopis gum) is an exudate gum obtained from mesquite tree (Prosopis sp.).
<![CDATA[Drawing on the argument that students' different learning behaviors, including their perceptions of and engagement with feedback, could have roots in learners' fundamental motivational characteristics, this study examines how different second language learning motivational variables may predict university EFL (English as a foreign language) students' feedback experience and preference. Data were collected from EFL students from three universities in an Asian region (N = 409) through three self-report questionnaires. Results of structural equation modeling (SEM) revealed that different components of the second language learning motivational construct appear to display differential associations with EFL students' feedback experience and preference. In particular, this study brought to light the crucial role of attitudes to classroom English learning and intended learning effort as essential mediating motivational variables in predicting how EFL students conceive of and act on feedback. The findings of this study also provide significant insights into a complex and dynamic view of how student preference for different types of feedback actually works in the feedback process. The authors conclude by arguing that EFL teachers need to shoulder the burden of making the EFL classroom a supportive environment that promotes a positive self-concept and self-confidence as the first step toward stimulating students' active feedback use, and that conditions need to be created to allow for connection of students' preference for learning process-oriented feedback to action to maximize the pivotal role that students play in the classroom and learning process. Due to safety concerns, longer hours in formal education, as well as lack of suitable outdoor environments, children in particular have been found to spend very little time outdoors. We have an opportunity, both timely and unique to have our children (re)connect with nature. Nature connection is a subjective state and trait that encompasses affective, cognitive, and experiential aspects in addition to being positively associated with wellbeing, and strong predictor of pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors. This mini-review brings together recent studies that report on interventions to increase nature connection in children. Fourteen studies were identified through electronic searches of Web of Science, Scopus, PsychInfo, ERIC, and Google Scholar. The review aims to offer an overview of the interventions identified, provide a snapshot of the current state of the literature, briefly present themes and trends in the studies identified in relation to nature connection in young people, and propose potential guidelines for future work. Using the conceptual framework of Self-Determination Theory, the analysis also examines the relationship between levels of PA among adolescents and physical self-concept and satisfaction of basic psychological needs during exercise. The study surveyed 129 first-year higher secondary education students from schools in the city of A Coruña. Satisfaction of basic psychological needs during organized and unstructured physical activities was measured using the Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale. BB-2516 price PA levels were assessed based on step count per day for a week as measured by an accelerometer. The results show that the daily step average recorded by students (7,400) is below the minimum recommended levels of PA for this age group, that students are more active on weekdays than at the weekend, and that there is no significant difference in PA levels between male and female subjects (T = 0.23, p 0.05, η2 = 0.08, observed power = 0.66). Basic psychological needs show significant positive interrelation between them and a significant positive relationship between them and physical self-concept, as expected based on previous literature. As such, the varying perceptions of our social relationships could indicate underlying differences in neural processes that occur in the prefrontal cortex (PFC), a brain region involved in social cognition. However, little is known of how personality traits and relationship closeness with others influence brain responses when viewing social interactions between kin (i.e., siblings) and non-kin (i.e., romantic, friends) partners. In the present study, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was employed to investigate prefrontal cortical activation patterns in response to three 1-min mute video clips depicting a male-female couple interacting with comparably mild levels of affection while baking, exercising, and eating. The context of the interaction was manipulated by informing participants about the type of relationship each couple in the three vxperiences (i.e., relationship closeness) of the individual, as well as the relationship type with which the interaction is labeled.
<![CDATA[BACKGROUND Infected bone defects are therapeutic challenges. Although the induced membrane technique has been used for this problem, there is a 3% to 20.7% failure to eradicate infection, and there have been few reports about its use in tuberculous infection. We present our three-stage induced membrane technique (TSIMT) for treating infected bone defects of the lower extremity. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty-one adult patients with infected bone defects of the lower extremities treated by TSIMT were included in a retrospective case-series study between January 2013 and June 2018. The clinical, imaging and laboratory assessment outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS In the first stage, 3 patients had ankle tuberculous bone defects and 17 patients underwent 2-4 debridements. In the second stage, the average bone defect was 6.0 cm; 1 patient needed an anterolateral thigh flap to cover the wound. In the third stage, 10 patients underwent autograft mixed allograft, and 18 cases used internal fixation. The mean follow-up period was 23.3 months. All patients achieved bone union and clinical eradication of infection. Changes in Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) scores after 1 year of TSIMT and bone union time are associated with advanced age, longer duration of infected bone defects, active smoking, and external fixation (p0.05). CONCLUSIONS TSIMT is effective in treating infected bone defects of the lower extremities. Advanced age, longer duration of infected bone defects, active smoking, and external fixation adversely affect bone union and recovery of infected extremities in a limited time span.Bladder cancer (BCa) is a heterogeneous disease with various tumorigenic mechanisms and clinical behaviors. The current tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system is inadequate to predict overall survival (OS) in BCa patients. We developed a BCa-specific, long-non-coding-RNA (lncRNA)-based nomogram to improve survival prediction in BCa. We obtained the large-scale gene expression profiles of samples from 414 BCa patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas database. click here Using an lncRNA-mining computational framework, we identified three OS-related lncRNAs among 826 lncRNAs that were differentially expressed between BCa and normal samples. We then constructed a three-lncRNA signature, which efficiently distinguished high-risk from low-risk patients and was even viable in the TNM stage-II, TNM stage-III and ≥65-year-old subgroups (all P less then 0.05). Using clinical risk factors, we developed a signature-based nomogram, which performed better than the molecular signature or clinical factors alone for prognostic prediction. A bioinformatical analysis revealed that the three OS-related lncRNAs were co-expressed with genes involved in extracellular matrix organization. Functional assays demonstrated that RNF144A-AS1, one of the three OS-related lncRNAs, promoted BCa cell migration and invasion in vitro. Our three-lncRNA signature-based nomogram effectively predicts the prognosis of BCa patients, and could potentially be used for individualized management of such patients.Aspergillus fumigatus is a major opportunistic human pathogen. Multiple traits contribute to A. fumigatus pathogenicity, including its ability to produce specific secondary metabolites, such as gliotoxin. Gliotoxin is known to inhibit the host immune response, and genetic mutants that inactivate gliotoxin biosynthesis (or secondary metabolism in general) attenuate A. fumigatus virulence. The genome of Aspergillus fischeri, a very close nonpathogenic relative of A. fumigatus, contains a biosynthetic gene cluster that is homologous to the A. fumigatus gliotoxin cluster. However, A. fischeri is not known to produce gliotoxin. To gain further insight into the similarities and differences between the major pathogen A. fumigatus and the nonpathogen A. fischeri, we examined whether A. fischeri strain NRRL 181 biosynthesizes gliotoxin and whether the production of secondary metabolites influences the virulence profile of A. fischeri We found that A. fischeri biosynthesizes gliotoxin under the same conditions as A. fuigatus and its close nonpathogenic relatives are similar or different with respect to virulence-associated traits. We investigated whether Aspergillus fischeri, a nonpathogenic close relative of A. fumigatus, can produce gliotoxin, a mycotoxin known to contribute to A. fumigatus virulence. We discovered that the nonpathogenic A. fischeri produces gliotoxin under the same conditions as those of the major pathogen A. fumigatus However, we also discovered that, in contrast to what has previously been observed in A. fumigatus, the loss of secondary metabolite production in A. fischeri does not alter its virulence. Our results are consistent with the "cards of virulence" model of opportunistic fungal disease, in which the ability to cause disease stems from the combination ("hand") of virulence factors ("cards") but not from individual factors per se. In order to delineate the factors responsible for this serotype transition, we performed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of V. cholerae O1 multidrug-resistant strains belonging to both the serotypes that were isolated during this interval where the emergence and subsequent reduction of the Inaba serotype occurred. The whole-genome-based phylogenetic analysis revealed clonal expansion of the Inaba isolates mainly responsible for the peaks of infection during 2016 to 2017 and that they might have evolved from the prevailing Ogawa strains in 2015 which coclustered with them. Furthermore, the wbeT gene in these Inaba serotype isolates was inactivated due to insertion of a transposable element at the same position signifying the clonal expansion. Also, V. cholerae isolates in the Inaba serotype dominanontinues to cause significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In the present study, WGS of V. cholerae allowed us to better understand the factors associated with the serotype switching events observed during 2015 to 2018. Genomic data analysis of strains isolated during this interval highlighted variations in the genes ctxB, tcpA, and rtxA and also identified significant differences in the genetic content of the mobilome, which included key elements such as SXT ICE, VSP-II, and PLE. Our results indicate that selective forces such as antibiotic resistance and phage resistance might contribute to the clonal expansion and predominance of a particular V. cholerae serotype responsible for an outbreak. Our results are consistent with the “cards of virulence” model of opportunistic fungal disease, in which the ability to cause disease stems from the combination (“hand”) of virulence factors (“cards”) but not from individual factors per se.
<![CDATA[Wilcoxon signed ranks test results showed statistically significant improvement in lower extremity strength. Conclusions In a sample of community-dwelling older adult females, an 8-wk regimen of treadmill exercise with LBPP unweighing resulted in improvements in lower extremity strength. The study provides preliminary support for the safe and effective use of LBPP treadmill training in community-dwelling older adults. Improvement in lower extremity strength may have significant implications in maintaining balance and mobility and decreasing fall risk in this population. Background Little is known about medical screening and differential diagnosis (MSDD) preparation of physical therapist students. Methods Professional degree physical therapist programs in the U.S. were surveyed regarding MSDD content and faculty perception of graduate competence. Results Fifty-five of 226 programs responded for a 24.3% response rate. Sixty-six percent strongly agreed that students were adequately prepared to perform MSDD with patients who are referred, whereas 47.3% strongly agreed for patients who are direct access. Faculty board specialty certification status affected perception of student competence (p=0.04). Increased emphasis during clinical affiliations was the most beneficial way to increase student knowledge of MSDD skills. Non-response bias assessment was non-significant. Conclusion Increasing clinical exposure was the top recommendation for expanding both faculty and student knowledge and skills. Factors potentially impacting student preparation in MSDD content have been identified and require further study. Background The specialty of sports physical therapy has grown substantially in size and scope over the past 50 years. Despite this growth, there is limited information on the educational opportunities and entry-level skills of clinicians in the management of sports-related injuries. Purpose To characterize the opinions of sports physical therapists on 1) factors that distinguish the practice of sports physical therapy, 2) the need for sports physical therapy content to be included as part of entry-level physical therapy curriculums, and 3) the perceived levels of competence for the typical new entry-level graduate regarding skills and knowledge unique to sports physical therapy. Study design Cross-sectional descriptive survey. Methods A 54-item web-based questionnaire was distributed to student and professional members of the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT). Results In total, 565 (7.4%) AASPT members responded to the survey. 60% of respondents did not have a specific sports physical therapuates. Level of evidence IV, cross-sectional descriptive survey design.Certified anesthesiologist assistants (CAAs) are Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within the anesthesia care team. This research evaluated their burnout. CAAs were surveyed nationally about their professional/work characteristics, perceived fairness of salary/benefits compared to certified registered nurse anesthetists/CAAs, the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), the Conditions for Work Effectiveness Questionnaire II, and questions regarding wellness resources at their place of employment. The survey was completed by 457 respondents (19.7%). Of them, 110 (24.1%) scored high on the Emotional Exhaustion subscale of the MBI-HSS. Factors associated with greater emotional exhaustion included younger age, full-time status, perception that salary/benefits were unfair/inadequate compared to other CAAs, more information about the state of their employer and related values/goals of administration, but fewer resources (i.e., time), lower job-related empowerment, and lower formal power. Forty-seven (10.3%) scored high on the Depersonalization subscale. Factors associated with greater depersonalization include younger age, full-time status, more information about state of employer and related values/goals, but less global empowerment, which predicted greater depersonalization. CAAs may report lower levels of burnout compared to other professionals in the anesthesia team but are, nonetheless, susceptible to effects of burnout. Both leaders of organizations and the APPs themselves hold responsibility in protecting against burnout.Professional practice amongst health professionals is at its peak when conducted free of bias and founded in accurate, up-to-date knowledge. If tarnished by judgmental attitudes or inadequate or inaccurate knowledge, individuals receiving health care or education may be disadvantaged or, worse, stigmatized. This study sought to detect if pre-service health professionals possess weight bias and quantify the degree of bias if present. It also sought to measure the level of nutrition knowledge that pre-service health professionals possess and compare these attitudes and knowledge to professionals whose roles are not incumbent on providing health education or counselling. Participants (n=174) were enrolled in an undergraduate nutrition elective and completed a survey containing the General Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire, Crandall's Antifat Attitudes Questionnaire, and the Fat Stereotyping Questionnaire. Students in non-health-related degrees (n=92) displayed higher levels of nutrition knowledge than those in health-related streams (n=82). Weight bias was detected amongst both groups and was stronger in students enrolled in health degrees. Fat stereotyping was detected at a medium level and, although insignificant, was higher amongst pre-service health professionals. Results of this study support the call for attitudes and knowledge to be addressed during the formal period of higher education, with the aim of reducing weight bias and improving nutrition knowledge before pre-service professionals graduate and enter the workforce. Background Emotional intelligence (EI) is often studied with perceived stress in students in health professions fields such as nursing but not dietetics.
<![CDATA[OBJECTIVES To compare the diagnostic accuracy of a low-cost screening test for identifying children at risk for language disorders with that of a specific language assessment. METHODS The study was conducted during a polio vaccination campaign in basic health units in western São Paulo, Brazil. The parents/guardians of 1000 children aged between 0 and 5 years were asked to answer questions of a specific screening test. The instrument consisted of a uniform set of questions about the main milestones in language development (from 0 to 5 years of age) with scaled scores to assess responses. There were no exclusion criteria. After the screening test, the children were referred to a specific language assessment by ABFW, following a determined flow of referrals. The results obtained in the screening were compared to those obtained in the specific language assessment; then, the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and positive and negative predictive values were determined for the screening test. Children who failed the screening test also underwent an audiological evaluation. The statistical significance was set at 5%. RESULTS The majority of the participants were aged between 4 and 5 years (21.82%) and were male (51.6%). The sensitivity and specificity values were 82.5% and 98.93%, respectively. The area under the curve was 0.907 (0.887-0.925), and the screening test showed 96% accuracy. CONCLUSIONS The screening test showed high diagnostic efficiency in determining the risk of language disorders in children aged between 0 and 5 years. The rapid increase in clinical cases of the new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, suggests high transmissibility. However, the estimates of the basic reproductive number reported in the literature vary widely. Considering this, we drew the function of contact-rate reduction required to control the transmission from both detectable and undetectable sources. Based on this, we offer a set of recommendations for symptomatic and asymptomatic populations during the current pandemic. Understanding the dynamics of transmission is essential to support government decisions and improve the community's adherence to preventive measures.OBJECTIVE In recent decades there has been an increase in the use of antidepressants (AD) and a decrease in the use of benzodiazepines (BDZ). Prevalence, cumulative incidence, and factors associated with the incidence of AD and BDZ use in a Brazilian population were estimated in this article. METHODS Data were collected with a self-administered questionnaire in a cohort of employees from a university in Rio de Janeiro. The prevalence of the use of AD and BDZ was calculated for 1999 (4,030), 2001 (3,574), 2006-07 (3,058), and 2012 (2,933). The cumulative incidences of the use of AD and BDZ between 1999 and 2007 were estimated by the Poisson models with robust variance estimates. RESULTS In 1999, the prevalence of the use of AD and BDZ were 1.4% (95%CI 1.1-1.8) and 4.7% (95%CI 4.1-5.4), respectively; in 2012, they were 5.4% (95%CI 5.5-6.2) and 6.8% (95%CI 6.0-7.8). The incidence of use, between 1999 and 2007, was 4.9% (95%CI 4.2-5.7) for AD and 8.3% (95%CI 7.3-9.3) for BDZ. The incidences of AD and BDZ use were higher among women and participants with a positive General Health Questionnaire. CONCLUSION In this population, the increase in the use of AD was not accompanied by a decrease in the use of BDZ, showing the prescriptions for psychotropic medication do not follow the currently recommended guidelines for treatment of common mental health disorders.BACKGROUND There is individual variation in physiological ageing. Former very low birthweight (VLBW; birthweight less then  1500 g) young adults may have less satisfactory measurements on some physiological parameters than term controls. We hypothesized that a summation score of physiological biomarkers that change with age would show VLBW adults to have a more advanced physiologic age than controls. METHODS VLBW adults (229; 71% survivors of a national VLBW cohort) and term-born controls (100) were clinically assessed at 26-30 years. Ten measured physiological biomarkers were selected and measurements converted to z-scores using normative reference data. Between-group comparisons were tested for statistical significance for individual biomarker z-scores and a summation score. RESULTS Nine of 10 biomarkers showed a mean z-score suggestive of older physiological age in the VLBW group versus controls. The observed mean difference in the summation score was highly significant (p  less then  0.001), representingare that preventative measures and lifestyle choices that impact on physiological ageing might have even greater importance for very preterm and very low birthweight graduates.BACKGROUND We aimed to assess remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPC) as a neuroprotective strategy after perinatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI) in a piglet model. METHODS Fifty-four newborn piglets were subjected to global HI for 45 min. One hour after HI, piglets were randomized to four cycles of 5 min of RIPC or supportive treatment only. The primary outcome was brain lactate/N-acetylaspartate (Lac/NAA) ratios measured by magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 72 h. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/MG132.html Secondary outcomes included diffusion-weighted imaging and neuropathology. A suboptimal level of retention in HIV care was demonstrated in the study with awareness of male partner's HIV status and financial buoyancy as its main predictors. To assess of the time of breastfeeding initiation, identify reasons for delay, if any and to assess if any prelacteal feeds were offered. An observational study was conducted among the inpatients of a tertiary care centre in Bhubaneswar, India. A total of 385 mothers, without contraindications to breastfeeding were interviewed at the earliest after childbirth. Only 36.4% mothers initiated breastfeeding "timely." Those who had undergone vaginal delivery scored better than cesarean sections with 41.3% (CI 95%; = 0.016). Rooming in helped at 37.6% (CI 95%; = 0.006). Multiparous homemakers from nuclear families and those who had previously breast fed initiated earlier than their counterparts. Less than 5% (CI 95%; = 0.056) offered prelacteal feeds, mostly water. Our study reveals an alarming decline in the timely initiation of breastfeeding in Odisha, India from 68.5% to 41.6%. Outbreaks are emergencies, requiring skilled peripheral health workers in the health system. Given the lack of evaluation of the knowledge and practices of peripheral health workers regarding outbreak investigation and response, we surveyed to estimate the performance level of health workers in outbreak detection and response. We developed a simulation exercise based on hepatitis and fever outbreak to ascertain knowledge and skills in outbreak detection and response. Following a pilot test and with inputs from public health experts, we finalized the instrument in the local language. The simulation exercise was self-administered among all health inspectors (HI) (n = 39) from a district in South India responsible for outbreak investigation. We collected sociodemographic factors, training, education level, awareness about the surveillance program, outbreak triggers, and prior experience with an outbreak. We assigned a score of 0.25 for each correct response (range 0 to 10.75). [IPI-145 We categorized a score of <7ponse. We recommend improving their performance through field-epidemiology training and regular field or facility-based evaluations. Diarrhea is one of the leading causes of death and morbidity in under-five children. Effective management can significantly influence survival of children with diarrhea. This study was carried out to assess extent of diarrhea, its source of treatment, and type of therapy. This snapshot study was conducted in rural setting of India. This study was conducted on 217 under-five children selected through multistage sampling procedure. Statistical association of diarrhea with age and gender of children was established by computing Chi-square. Period prevalence (Recall period 2 weeks of visit) of diarrhea in rural under-five children was 35.9% (95%C.I. 29.3-42.2%). Highest prevalence in age group 0-12 months (47.8%) and lowest in 49-59 months (18.2%). Number of episode per child is 1.08. Diarrhea was watery in 69.4%. Quacks were treatment provider for 36.4% cases. In 17.6% episodes, no treatment was taken. Only 9.4% episodes were treated in government facilities. For the treatment of diarrhea, antibiotic was used in 71.8% cases, ORS use was 33.3% cases, and zinc was used 21.8% of diarrhea episodes. Diarrhea is a significant problem in under-five children from a rural area of India. In spite of existence of National Program for Control of Diarrheal Diseases (NPCDD) since four decades, management of diarrhea is not on track. Focusing on primary care provision to under-five children can help in bringing the management of diarrhea on track. Yoga and meditation can help in alleviating mental stress and improving psychological wellbeing. It was a community-based online cross-sectional study involving adult general population. Data collection was done by using a Google form link that was circulated via online platforms. The data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 22. Qualitative data were expressed in proportions or percentages and quantitative data were expressed in mean and standard deviation. Chi-square test was used to check the association of various factors and mental wellbeing. A total of 649 (58.4%) subjects had normal mental wellbeing score, whereas 279 (25.1%) were found to be at risk of developing psychological distress and 184 (16.5%) were at risk of depression. A significantly larger proportion of subjects with normal mental wellbeing was found with the practice of both yoga and meditation (66.2%), followed by practice of only meditation (62.1%), only yoga (59.9%), and none of them (50.6%). A similar association of yoga and meditation practices was found with the change in eating, sleeping patterns, and family relations. The frequency of practice was positively associated with a higher level of mental wellbeing in the case of both yoga as well as meditation, with daily practice having the highest wellbeing scores. The practice of yoga and meditation, preferably both of them, is associated with higher level of mental wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
